Literature Text

The Titanic remained dead silent and cold, laying there in what could become her former watery grave as the submersibles worked hard to get her ready to return to the world above from where she fell from on the night of her sinking. As the submersibles continued on, the Wetsteel tanks on the hull had been pumping the special electrolyte chemical into the sediment to dissolve the mud under the Titanic's keel in order to erase the static friction that kept her down at bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The target date of rises the famous ship was seventeen days away.

Up on the deck of the USS Denver, Kane Smith was out alone. He looked up at the sky for a moment, wondering what the future was going to hold, before he looked down at the sea surface. The sea was calm with a gentle breeze. Far below, the Spirit of the Titanic was on aft section, near the stern of her wreck, wondering whether or not she would come back to the world of the living. There was, however, another part of her that was thinking of Kane Smith... in a way she never thought of before. Remembering how he held her, seeing his face, hearing his words and understandings that comforted her heart, she placed her hand close to her chest, feeling the passion that Kane had for her.

"I know how much he cares about me," Titanic thought to herself. "But I don't know to say in return to show him how I care about... all I can do is hold him close to me and look at him."

She looked up at the surface.

"Is he right?" she thought. "Does the world of Man today really understand my story, my tragic voyage in, which I took many innocent lives with me... I can only wait until then... however, these strange and unknowing feeling I'm getting... what is this... what is my heart telling me?"

At the same time on surface, Kane was wondering about a similar feeling inside him when he thought of how much Titanic meant to him.

"How can this really be?" he thought. "It's strange... but yet... I really do care about her... is it possible that I'm falling for her... a girl, named after the titans that were casted into Hell?"

He shook his head, sighing, thinking that this was all crazy, before looking down at the sea again.

"Not long now, Titanic," he said to himself. "Soon you will come back and arrive in New York, completing your maiden voyage that should've been done nearly seventy years ago."

Again at the same time, below at the bottom at the Atlantic, Titanic was  trying to make out what was causing this new feeling she was getting... it defiantly was not one that she had experienced and certainly uncharacteristic of someone of her kind.

"Why have I felt this so suddenly?" she thought. "If I don't know what it is... then maybe... Kane will tell me."

In her cabin Emily Rose was reading one of the shipwreck books and one had a chapter of the Lusitania disaster. Once she started reading, memories of the tragic event in 1915 came flooding back.

"It should not have happened!" she said, her tone sounding nearly distressful. "Lusitania was an innocent liner with innocent lives... and yet she ended up sinking at the hands of those cold hearted germans! Even though it's been decades since that day, I still damn them to hell!"

She accidently tossed the book onto her bed and stomped the floor. Emily had still been bothered by the events of the Lusitania tragedy. Whenever the subject was ever brought up, she would lose it and get close to nearly having a breakdown. Many of her old friends back then could not understand and had abandoned her. Emily mostly blamed herself for letting that happen... but since making new friends with Kane Smith and the others, she had moved on... but the memories of Lusitania still stuck to her.

"If only I could turn back time and bring that ship back!" she said. "Or even see Lusitania's spirit again!"

As she restrained herself from having an outburst, she suddenly felt cold and icy presence shivering down her spine.

"Huh... what was that I just felt?" she asked herself.

Suddenly, there came the sound of footsteps. Emily thought it was one of the salvage crew members walking by. But it was much louder. It was coming from her cabin. She started to feel tense when she jolted suddenly as if being pushed.

"Is this some sort of supernatural? I thought ghosts didn't exist! That's what Mom use to tell me as a kid!"

Emily then heard her cabin door open, which made her jump and nearly screamed. But she saw that it was only Emily Life.

"What's with that look?" she said. "You look like you've seen a ghost or something?"

"Something supernatural happened just a moment ago!" Emily said. "I swear I heard strange sounds and even a cold chill as if there was someone else in my cabin! Could it be that there's a ghost in here!"

"So you too heard about that so called 'Titanic Curse'?" Emily Life said. "I, for one, do not believe it. Many people have been superstitious about Titanic before or after she sank. There have been many strange sightings but I don't think there's anything ghostly about that famous liner, unlike other shipwrecks who have had unknowingly sunk or disappearing without a trace."

"But Emily, I'm serious!" Emliy Rose said. "If you telling that there is a curse of Titanic, then I might be experiencing the presence of one of the lost passengers!!"

Emily Life looked her and sighed. But then she too felt a sudden chill and turned round.

"What the hell?" she said out loud. "Was someone just there a second ago?"

The two Emilys looked at one another. Before they could say another, an unknown voice was heard.

"Have you heard it? The rumor about the ghost of the Titanic... apparently she tries her best in making it to New York, to complete the voyage she was never able to manage to. Her spirt wonders the Atlantic Ocean. All that have come over her site have been cursed or even spooked by her as if to stay away from her gravesite. They say she comes out at night, mostly on the anniversary of her death, if you ever see her actual form of what she really looks like, no matter happens, don't see or look... if you do... the ghost of the Titanic will drag you in and you'll never see the light of day again and end up in her grave with the other lives that went with her."

Then a suddenly gust of wind blew. The two Emilys didn't realize it at that moment but they saw a figure fly past in front of them, without even seeing it's face. They both gave a sudden gasp as they fell onto their rear ends on the floor.

"Did you see that?!" cried Emily Rose.

"I sure did but it was so fast that I didn't get to see who it was!" replied Emily Life.

"It had to be a ghost! Surely, it had to be!" Emily Rose said.

But within the shadows outside, a mysterious figure gave a evil chuckle before fading away.

On the bridge, Dirk Pitt, Robert Ballard and Matthew Anderson were talking while looking at one of the blueprints of the Titanic. Most of the blueprints were destroyed and the shipyard of Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Ireland, where the ship was built no longer there for it had been leveled by German bombers during World War II.

"Hey, Dirk, I was thinking, if we do succeed in getting this grand lady up, then we could do to other shipwrecks, such as the Lusitania, or even the Titanic's sister ship, the Britannic."

"I highly doubt it, Matthew," Pitt said in a disappointing tone, shaking his head. "I hate to bring it yo you but the Lusitania is heavily damaged by depth charges from the British Royal Navy in the 1950's and the Britannic's bow is buckled, beyond repair when she hit the bottom on the day she sank in 1916."

"And yet they lay in shallow waters when you compare that to where Titanic is." added Ballard.

"What?! Oh damn!" Matthew sighed. "And I thought we could bring back other famous liners."

"And by what other liners or ships where you referring to?" asked Ballard. "To me, shipwrecks are there to be left undisturbed and to rest peacefully. They are watery graves for those who didn't survive."

"But on the other hand," said Pitt, giving Ballard a look. "It can be important to save what can be retrievable from them and preserve them. After all NUMA has mostly done that to insure that find, salvage and bring back history to it's rightful people when it has been lost to the Tides of Time."

Ballard and Pitt continued on their rivaled debate as Matthew looked on, sighing as he shook his head. But just then, he noticed something silhouetting in the corner of the bridge before it suddenly vanished.

"Huh? What in world did I just see then?" he thought to himself, scratching his head in confusion.
Here's my new chapter for my RTT fan fic.  As the Titanic continues to await her raising, her spirit is feeling something new as is Kane Smith.  On the other hand, some strange things are occurring on the surface... could the wreck of Titanic be cursed?
